St. Patrick Cathedral School
NEWSLETTER

The faculty, staff and board of St. Patrick School wish you and your families a happy and healthy New Year. Our apologies for being slightly late with the newsletter, but with vacation and then Mrs. McIvor and myself were in workshops for three full days upon returning to school.

Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday, January 29th through February 3rd. A schedule is attached with the activities for the week. Our theme is faith, academics and service. We encourage you to come to the kick-off mass at 10:30 on the 29th , all readings and serving will be done by our students. There will be activities during the week that you are more than welcome to attend, including Open House.

NED is Coming!
January 23rd from 8:15 to 9:15a.m. We are happy to announce one of the most popular school assemblies will be hosted by our school. The assembly combines a great message with yo-yo’s, humor and audience participation to teach the students how to develop three valuable characteristics involved in becoming champions at school and in life… never give up( focus, persistence); Encourage others (kindness, shared learning); Do your best( diligence, excellence). There will be NED items for sale 5 days following the show. Students receive free yo-yo trick sheets, and the school will receive some special items as well. This show comes to us free of charge and proceeds from our school allow other schools to also receive the show for free. Parents are invited to join the fun with our students in this dynamic assembly.

New Computer System
New Computer System – Our school is presently upgrading and installing a new system for our grading, attendance and communications and much more. We ask your patience as we work on this installation and training. It is very important that you get to us your current phone numbers and updated e-mails. We will then be able to e-mail reports and much more with this system. We are very excited, Mrs. Egbert is working double time to be sure we are up to date.

Cold Weather
We ask that you label all student clothing to prevent the loss of uniform items. Also have students dress in layers so we may take them out even for a short time to get fresh air, and if it warms up they still have something to put on.

Altar Servers
Any students grade 4 and up who are interested in becoming altar servers, please see Mrs. Reed for permission slips and we can start your training. Congratulations to those new students who are doing a fabulous job with the help of our veteran servers.

Good-Bye
We are sad to see Father Greg leave us as we were becoming so used to his presence in church and school. We wish him well in his new position and will keep him in our prayers. I’m sure we will see him now and again. Good luck Father!!

Dress Down for Charity
Our dress down for charity will be Friday, January 13th. Our proceeds will go to the Haitian Fund. This will be our only dress down day, there will be no more free dress down days, only NUT cards for home school meetings. Progress Reports – Progress reports will go home to those students who need them on the 13th. If you have any questions regarding grades please contact the classroom teacher.

Martin Luther King Day
Just a reminder that there will be no school on Monday, January 16th for MLK day.

I wish to convey my personal thanks to Mrs. Reed, Monsignor, all of the students, parents, faculty and staff for your most generous gift. I cannot tell you how delighted I was to receive the “PT Cruiser”. What a wonderful, thoughtful and most generous gift! I know I will enjoy driving it around town. (Watch out). I still cannot believe that all the children managed to keep it a secret. Every time I drive the car I will think of all of you with gratitude and affection. ST. PAT’S IS THE BEST.

Mrs. McIvor

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Catherine Reed
